Poems And Paintings: Together At Once! (Judith Robinson) NEW

« back to classes page

The itch to make dark marks on white surfaces is shared by writers and visual artists, said John Updike, and so say I. Join me in reading The Painted Poem, 65 pages of original paintings based on original poems, as well as the reverse-poems based on paintings. This is an exploration of what happens when pen and brush come together " . . . the two muses marry and create a glorious wedding feast for the viewer/reader" (Grace Cavalieri, The Poet and The Poem from The Library of Congress). The Greeks had a name for it: ekphrasis! In addition, participants will also have the opportunity to write their own poems based on visual materials. Writing is an option, listening and seeing, a pleasure.
