In 1955, the play Inherit the Wind opened on Broadway and was later turned into a film in 1960. It is a fictionalized account of the 1925 “Scopes Monkey Trial” which challenged the teaching of evolution. This course will show how the play took liberties with the truth. The film will be shown and discussed. The course will place the trial in the context of the 1920s and the play in the 1950s.
