This course explores the art of musical composition through an examination of the formal structures that composers employ to shape their masterworks. Particular attention will be given to the ways in which musical ideas are organized, developed, and transformed within diverse compositional frameworks. At the same time, the course offers a comparative study of multiple interpretations of the same musical works, investigating how performers and conductors bring their own artistic perspectives to a score. Through this process, students will examine the dynamic relationship between a composer’s written intentions and the creative insights that artists contribute within the parameters of the musical text.
