The basic bookbinding class will explore bookbinding: forms, materials, tools, and provide you with a foundation to build upon that knowledge to produce books according to western traditions. The two basic book forms to be explored will be folded books and basic sewn- pamphlet and multi-signature books. The plan is to take each structure and show you how to construct a basic book properly and then expand upon that base to produce more complicated books that enhance the text or contents. The lessons will also provide you with information on “what not to do” or “what not to use” to avoid possible problems or failures.
