This class will look at Ars Poetica - Poetry about Poetry. The first known example of someone writing poetry about writing poetry was the Roman poet Horace, ca. 19 BCE. Since then, poets have contemplated and written about the art and craft of poetry. In Session 1, this class will look at examples of Ars Poetica throughout history, and then you will have a chance to draft your own poems about making poetry. In Session 2, we will discuss and possibly workshop the poems you have drafted, and then look at some opportunities to submit work to be published. Finally, time permitting, we will look at some examples of Artificial Intelligence engineering that attempt to write poetry. Prior poetry writing (e.g. Poetry 101) is not required but you will be encouraged to write using provided prompts.
