The city of Pittsburgh has a remarkable abundance of religious architecture and art. Immigrants came from around the globe to find work and to seek prosperity in our industrial city. They brought with them a multitude of religious traditions. Immigrants built religious structures that not only accommodated their religious practices but also served as centers for their communities and a haven for new arrivals. Religious architecture and art were and are expressions of faith and ethnic pride. This lecture series will be a tour of churches, synagogues, and temples illustrating the creativity and design skills of the architects and craftsmen who made them.
