Changes in demographics are creating a global crisis. The crisis is not the declining global population — though this is much bruited about. The real crisis is the growing asymmetry between countries whose population is increasing rapidly and those whose population is falling equally rapidly, and between those whose population is aging and those whose population is much younger. This course will examine these asymmetries and their impact on global economics, politics and welfare. The growing number of people on the move, seeking economic opportunities or fleeing political, economic and climate disruption. Intensity global demographic disorder. Our course will seek to illuminate these developments, suggest costs and threats and possible values and rewards. The aim is to heighten our understanding of this escalating national and global challenge.
