This course surveys the lives, times, and accomplishments of a wide variety of remarkable women scientists from the past. Each of these trailblazers made significant discoveries and breakthroughs in their respective fields, defying the odds and overcoming numerous challenges. Living and working across different parts of the world from the 1600s to the mid-20th century, they often encountered formidable obstacles, including limited access to education, uncertain job prospects, limited support, hostility, and discrimination. Their work was often overshadowed by their male colleagues and collaborators. Despite these hurdles, they demonstrated a steadfast passion for discovery, extraordinary courage and perseverance. Their contributions should be widely recognized and celebrated. These women of science should be famous!
