More than 45 years after his death, Alfred Hitchcock remains the most famous movie director of all time. Some of the scenes in his films are so iconic that they are etched in moviegoers’ minds, years after they first saw the film. In this course, we will review in detail the creation of 14 of Hitchcock’s most memorable scenes, including famous ones such as the crop-dusting plane attack in North by Northwest and the shower scene from Psycho, and lesser-known moments such as the fall from the Statue of Liberty in Saboteur and the airplane crash in Foreign Correspondent. After viewing clips of each scene, we will look at Hitchcock’s directorial style, back-stories of how each scene was conceived and produced, and where available, clips from documentaries, all with the purpose of providing a unique take on the films of Alfred Hitchcock.
