Black Americans have significantly shaped U.S. history and culture across various fields, including the arts, sciences, sports, and politics, despite facing systemic challenges and discrimination. The roles they have played as actors, directors, writers, and producers have significantly shaped the film industry. As we have done in the past, we will use films by Black directors to increase awareness of, and appreciation of, life from the perspective of the Black experience. Students will view the films on their own prior to each class, and be prepared to discuss them during class. Every student is encouraged to participate in the discussions.
