What lies beyond our earth has been the subject of novels, TV series, films, not to mention real science. Science fiction is a genre that allows the imagination of the filmmaker to become untethered. While most films are, to some extent, fantasy, sci-fi takes that conceit to new height. The course will feature a selection of films dealing with “outer space” that show different aspects of the genre, from the historical to the fanciful. Many pushed the bounds of modern of film technology in their time. But in the end, these are fun movies that take us away from our earthly cares, even if only for a couple of hours. Students will view the film on their own prior to each class and be prepared to discuss it during the zoom class. Streaming outlets will be supplied as part of the schedule of movies.
