Both the previous and current US administrations are bullish on the use of nuclear power to generate electricity. This course will focus on the renaissance of commercial nuclear power used for electricity generation and review what’s happening both in the US and worldwide. It will cover how nuclear is used to generate electricity, current worldwide nuclear generation, why the expansion slowed, what is reviving the planning of new plants worldwide, new projects, how uranium is used in the nuclear fuel life cycle, small modular reactors, advanced reactor concepts and future challenges. Participants need not have a detailed engineering background as broad high level technology discussion will be used to explain the concepts.
