Few are aware that a collection of modern Swiss posters resides in the CMU Library. They were donated to the university by Swiss designer Ruedi Ruegg in 1987 as a teaching tool for design students, as well as a research subject for faculty near and far. Each year, design faculty and students visit the collection to see the posters up-close, studying their design, typography, and printing techniques. This two-day course will start with an introduction to the poster collection — its size, scope, function, and categories of content — copiously illustrated with slides. The second session will be held on the fourth floor of Hunt Library, where you will have the chance to see the posters up close, with additional commentary from Jill Chisnell, Arts and Humanities Librarian, and Sam Lemley, Curator of Special Collections.
