Founded in 1961 by Rachel McMasters Miller Hunt, The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation is housed in CMU’s Hunt Library. It certainly deserves to be included in a list of world-class institutions in our region. Rachel’s lifelong love of the natural world, rare books, and artwork is reflected within the collection that she bequeathed. During this visit to the HIBD, Senior Curator of Art and Research Scholar Carrie Roy will share details about Rachel’s life and her work as a scholar and leader in the field of botanical research. In addition, Curators from Archives, Art and Library Departments will present some of the highlights of the collection and speak about the legacy and future goals of HIBD. Whether you are an art lover, enjoy gardening, are interested in ecology, or appreciate how one woman has shared her passions with generations to come, this visit will be a rare opportunity for all.
